COSSA Board Seeking Nominations for At-Large Seats

August 14, 2026 1:37 PM | DCSS Admin (Administrator)

From the Consortium of Social Science Associations (COSSA)

The COSSA Board of Directors Nominations Committee solicits nominations to fill up to two (2) at-large director seats on the COSSA Board of Directors for the 2027-2029 term. All interested individuals are invited to submit. The Board is always looking to bring new perspectives to COSSA; therefore, nominations representing sectors or communities that would bring unique views and opportunities to COSSA, such as philanthropy, industry, or other sectors, are welcome.

About the COSSA Board of Directors
The COSSA Board serves as the governing body of the organization and is responsible for setting policy and providing guidance and oversight for COSSA’s strategic directions.

The Board of Directors is currently comprised of 17 members: 13 representing COSSA’s Governing Member Associations and 4 at-large directors. At-large seats are intended to bring to the table diverse perspectives and voices that may not necessarily be represented by COSSA’s association members. The current Board roster can be found here. [Note: DCSS is not a COSSA member organization and any at-large member selected would not be representing DCSS.]

At-large directors serve three-year staggered terms. The term for the open seats run from January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2029.

Time Commitment
The COSSA Board of Directors meets quarterly, either virtually or in Washington, DC for one day (phone and video participation is allowed). In addition, each Board member is asked to serve on one of COSSA’s standing committees, which each meet separately 1-3 times during the year. The time commitment for at-large directors is minimal, aside from these meetings, especially compared to other scientific boards and committees.

Nomination Process
The COSSA Nominations Committee is tasked with identifying and vetting potential nominees and making recommendations to the full Board of Directors. The Board then votes to invite a nominee(s) to serve as an at-large director, which is followed up by a formal invitation to the selected individual. During its deliberations, the Committee will consider the unique perspectives of each nominee and strive to ensure the Board reflects the breadth and diversity of the social and behavioral science enterprise.

Please submit your nomination to Wendy Naus at wnaus@cossa.org by no later than Monday, August 31. Include the following information with the nomination:

  • Cover letter that highlights the candidate’s expertise and what their appointment would add to the Board and/or COSSA.
  • CV or resume (10-page limit).

Self-nominations are welcome.
